About us

We operate on unceded Robinson-Huron (1850) and Williams (1923) Treaty territory, occupied and cared for generations by Nipissing First Nation peoples, colloquially known as North Bay, Ontario, Canada.

In 2020, we started with an idea to design and make radical pin-back style buttons. In 2023, Beyond Buttons was born. These fun little buttons with a lot to say became popular at markets and among friends. The business grew to expand it's design collections and products. In 2026, we rebranded from beyondbuttons.org to beyondbuttons.ca, moving away from generic, black-white imagery to channeling our inner child with colourful graphics.

Award winning service

In 2024, Beyond Buttons was a recipient of the Canadian Choice award for Education & Advocacy in North Bay, ON. This was achieved by providing micro-education during pop up events, sharing community resources, and displaying designs that go against the status quo in an effort to raise awareness or spark conversations. Beyond Buttons continues to offer discounted services to non-profit organizations. We will always advocate for people and groups advancing equality or dismantling systems that perpetuate harm.

Customized care

In 2024, we were grateful to be the recipient of Silver for CommunityVotes in their North Bay Retail Stores - Hobby and Craft category. We love supporting small businesses, non-profits, and community groups with their custom design needs.

About the owner

Kylee Bakowski (she/her) relocated to North Bay in 2013. Since then she has completed a BA in criminal justice, and received a diploma in community justice and services. Soon after graduation, Kylee pivoted towards community justice and public education. Kylee's passion for advocacy and education as led her to work with non-profit organizations for the past 10 years. Kylee continues to learn and educate based on research, relevant experience, and self-taught knowledge. Kylee first found joy making buttons for a local events such as Take Back the Night and Pro-Choice Solidarity Chains. From there, the hobby grew into a project that combined all of Kylee's favourite things: community, education, advocacy, accessories, and creativity. Kylee self-identifies as a queer woman, and is childless by choice.
